U LICE CENZURI

by ana.milanovic

Zahtevamo transparentno raspolaganje doniranim novcem.

Zahtevamo kraj cenzure i početak odgovornosti.

In the face of censorship

In the days when, due to neglect, incompetence and irresponsibility of the government, brave and humane citizens are taking over the functions of the state and helping the afflicted in the flooded and flood-threatened regions – the government is wasting time and energy on violating the freedom of expression by attacking and shutting down websites calling for them to assume responsibility.

In just a few days, blog “Druga strana” (Other side) and portal “Teleprompter” were temporarily disabled, and the entire Dragan Todorović’s blog on “Blic” portal was deleted after he had re-published a text listing the reasons why Aleksandar Vučić should resign. We have no reason to doubt that similar instances of censorship will happen in the future.

With the lack of strong parliamentary opposition, and just a few print and electronic media critiquing the regime, the government of Aleksandar Vučić and its aids are attacking the critical thought on the Internet, stifling freedom of expression. Faced with inconvenient questions and facts, the government is resorting to force, proving they lack arguments to defend their actions.

We demand the government immediately stop attacking the freedom of expression, stop interfering with critical websites and pages, and to start answering questions rightfully posed by the public.

We demand the government respect all other rights and liberties, as well as rule of the law.

We demand the names of those killed by the floods be published immediately.

We demand transparency in managing the donated money.

We demand all the representatives of the government, regardless of their governing position, assume full moral and legal responsibility for each life that could have been saved had they not been neglectful, incompetent and irresponsible, as well as for destroyed property that could have been protected had they adequately reacted.

We demand the end of censorship and the beginning of responsibility.
